Santanghu 250MW/1000MWh Energy Storage Project by Beijing HyperStrong Technology Co., LTD.

An energy storage system with an output of 250 MW and a storage capacity of 1,000 MWh, making it one of the world’s largest battery storage units to date, has been built just over 50 kilometers away from the Chinese city of Santanghu. Connected to it is a 1 GW wind farm, where 81 units consisting of lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries of varying power classes span an area of almost six hectares. In conjunction with renewable sources of energy, the storage system improves grid stability. The site is located around 1,000 meters above sea level with a harsh climate characterized by large seasonal temperature differences of between -27°C and +38°C, making both cooling and heat management a major challenge.
